Abstract
This research discusses some idiomatic expressions which are related to the translation. In this research, the researcher wants to learn more about the ways which is used in translating English idiomatic expressions into Indonesian.Moreover, the researcher also wants to know the level of fidelity of the translation of idiomatic expressions in Agatha Christie's Murder on the Links. The researcher uses two kinds of novel. First, the English version entitled Murder on the Links written by Agatha Christie. Second, the Indonesian version entitled Lapangan Golf Maut by Suwarni A.S. The researcher found many idiomatic expressions in this novel. Thus, this novel is a valid source of the data. The kind of research which is used in this research is descriptive method.The researcher reads the novel before collecting the data. Then, the researcher classifies the data and analyzes them. At last, the researcher concludes the results of the analysis. The analysis results 80 data containing idiomatic expressions. The idiomatic expressions are classified based on their forms, they are phrase and sentence. Next, the idiomatic expressions that are phrase in form are classified into verb phrase, noun phrase, adjective phrase and prepositional phrase.Furthermore, the idiomatic expressions that are sentences in forms are classified into two kinds, they are statement and exclamatory. Based on the level of fidelity, it results 50 data obtaining the high level of fidelity, 20 data belonging to the mid level of fidelity, and 10 data reaching the low level of fidelity.
