Abstract

In this research, the writer discusses The Structure of Modification in English that occurs in articles of Time magazine published every week. The writer wants to study deeper about The Structure of Modification in English by analyzing how The Structure of Modification in English used in articles of Time magazine,and the kinds of The Structure of Modification in English used in articles of Time magazine. The writer uses descriptive method in making this research, by collecting the data, classifying the data, and making analysis. At last, the writer gives conclusion. The source of the data in making this research is the articles of Time magazine that are published from 2nd May 2005 up to 23rd May 2005. Based on this research, the writer finds that The Structure of Modification in English has twNo different structures. The first is “modifier + Head”(58%),and “head + Modifier” (42 %). Secondly, after the data have been analyzed, the writer comes to conclusion that The Structure of Modification in English consists of three kinds, namely, noun as a head (82 %), adjective as a head(16%),and adverb as a head (6%).
