Abstract
People in society usually use language to make communication with others in order to express their feelings, desires, and thoughts. It means that language function as a means of communication. In their communication, they sometimes make use of more than one language. In this care, they frequently switch one language into another. The switch of language happens because speakers want to change the topic of discussion or the situation makes them change the language they use. Even, they switch their language in order to create variety of language usage in their conversation. The happening of switching one language into another can be seen, for example, in the communication when a speaker who speaks English switches into Indonesian. The switch of one language into another is called code-switching. It means that in code-switching, people use two or more language when they are speaking or writing. TVRI has one of game programs related to code-switching that is English for Fun. English for Fun of TVRI is very interesting for society which like English language. The presenter of English for Fun sometimes applied code-switching that is, from English into Indonesian. English for Fun is one programs of TVRI which presented on every week. The conduct this research, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method because this method is regarded more suitable with the problems of the research. This method is used with some step : collecting, classifying and analyzing the data. The sampling in this research is total sampling. In other words, all of the data are analyzed one by one. The number of population is 70 all. While, the data of this research is found on English for Fun of TVRI of July 27, 2004 through November 04, 2004. The type of code-switching used by the presenter of English for Fun is conversational code-switching, because the code-switching occur in the same situation and in the same topic and are used by the same person. The linguistic forms of code-switching used by the presenter of English for Fun are words, phrase, clauses and sentences. Code-switching in the form of sentences reaches the highest level, namely 56 (80%), phrase 10 (14,3%), word 3•(4,3%) and clause 1(1,4%). There are some reasons basing the use of code-switching in English for Fun of TVRI. The first is concerning the humorous side. The next is that the presenter hopes that the language used will make the game familiar to the participants and audience. While, the last is that the people watching the program will understand the language used. In English for Fun of TVRI no change of meaning happens in the use of the code-switching.
