Abstract

Literature is a part of the culture that consists of the note of society values, opinion of society, and the problems in the life. In short, study of the literature is the process of to understand the daily life itself, such as literature is the imitation of life. So, literature is a place to express and immortalize the literary work, like the poem. The poem is a kind of literature that consists of some stanzas and lines. It is usually in form of experience or poet's heart expression. The title of this thesis is The Comparative Study on the Theme of Robert Frost's "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and that of“ In Winter in the Woods Alone" analyze about the similarity of theme from two poems. To make the analysis easier, the writer begins her analysis with the discussion of the denotative and connotative meaning. In her analysis about denotative meaning, the writer of the thesis makes a conclusion that two poems consist of the relationship between human and nature. If the people can take care the nature well so the beauty of nature will be taken care too. Besides the relationship the nature and human, the writer of the thesis also discuss about the awareness of people to the God and it is about human's responsibility in the talking care of nature beauty. To complete the data in this discussion of the thesis title, the writer of the thesis also analyzes the connotative meaning. Basically, the conclusion from two poem are in the life, every people experience the problem and the problem can be ended if someone who faces the problem is to look for the solution. The solution must be ended before he dies. To answer and understand the similarity from two poems of Robert Frost's “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" and “In Winter in the Woods Alone", the writer of the thesis uses denotative and connotative meaning as the data to analyze the similarity of two poems. Based on the analysis, she makes a conclusion that there are 3 similarities in the two poems. First similarity is the responsibility of human to the nature, second similarity is the awareness to the Grandeur of God and last similarity is someone who lives in the world is to face a problem and it is a solution for sure. Finally, the writer of the thesis hope this thesis can be useful for the reader especially the poem of Robert Frost "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" an “In Winter in the Woods Alone”.
