Abstract

Literature is a literary work which expresses and extends the minds, the feelings, and the attitudes of our life through writing language. The object of literary work is the life of human being itself. Literary work in wider meaning includes all literary works which are written, such as novel, poem, and drama. Novel is one of interesting literary works and many people are interested in it. Novel itself is one of part of fiction story. Novel tells us about lots stories of daily life in society and can be made as effective learning in our life. The characters in the story are the reflection of real characters in the word which related in fulfilling of the needs and the desire of human being. In writing of this thesis, the writer using library research and deductive method. Library research is a method of colecting data which takes the data from a literary work, then writer also looks for another books to support the reference. While, deductive method is a method of looking for the evidences from more specific information. In this chance, the writer chooses a novel entitled Our Mutual Friend to be analyzed. Our Mutual Friend is a fiction story which is written by Charles Dickens, he tells his story so interestingly to the reader. Charles Dickens is the known as the most popular writer and good researcher. So in this story there is no wonder that the people have opinions that Our Mutual Friend tells about the life of Charles Dickens itself. Our Mutual Friend tells about the life of a boy named John Harmon. Since childhood, he went so far and after the death of his father, he came back. His father's name was John Harmon and his father had many possessions. But after old John Harmon death he had not been able to possessed the wealth of his father's yet. The wealth would be possessed by him if he fulfilled the desire of his father wish to marry with Bella Wilfer. Hence,John Harmon faced many problems and because of his intrique, John Harmon could solve the problems well. Finally, John Harmon was able to possess the property and married Bella Wilfer and then he found the happiness in his life.
