Abstract

This thesis discusses about the English possessive constructions, so the writer wants to analysis how the structures of English possessive construction, besides that the writer also analysis what are the functions of English possessive constructions and the last the writer compare between English possessive construction with Manggarainese possessive construction. In using this research, the writer collects many data by reading many data sources. The data that used by the writer on this thesis are taken from many data sources such as, the Reader's Digest magazine edition of February 1994,The Jakarta Post newspapers edition of 24 April 2004, 25 April 2004, 27 April 2004, and 28 April 2004, the writer also gets the data from Newsweek magazines edition of5 August 2002 and also the edition of 12 February 2001. The reason of why the writer uses these data sources is because on these data sources the writer can find the data that the writer needed. Besides that the writer analyzes those data based on the statements of the problem. In related with the process of data finding, the writer concludes that, this research is categorized as descriptive research. After doing the analysis the writer makes the conclusion. On this analysis the writer finds three kinds of English possessive constructions, the writer finds that there are ten structures of English possessive structure, the writer also find many functions of English possessive constructions,, and the last after making comparison possessive construction of English language and Manggarainese possessive construction, the writer also finds the similarities and the differences between the two language possessive construction usage.
