Abstract

The final purpose of teaching poems is the poem appreciation building. In the activity of poem teaching, students are directly faced to the poems. Through that activity, the student are expected to be close to the poems and, on turn, the students can comprehend and absorb the education and aesthetic values contained within the poems. In order to reach that purpose, some main aspects need to be concerned namely, the aspect of material choosing, the aspect of material presenting, and the aspect of teaching result evaluation. The criteria of the teaching material choosing should consider the language side which is used, the psychology and background, and the poem pedagogical and aesthetic sides that will be taught. Due to the aspect of the teaching material presenting, the material should be told in steps starting from language aspect, idea, and the poem aesthetic side. While, concerning the aspect of teaching result evaluation, the evaluation should be done by entailing four levels–information, concept, perspective and appreciation levels.
