Abstract

The objectives of the study entitled David Copperfield's Characterization in Charles Dickens' David Copperfield are (1) to explain the characterization in David Copperfield (2) to elaborate the influence of family, of school, and of jobs toward David Copperfield's characterization. To obtain the data, library research is used including the internet browsing. The data are taken from David Copperfield. The theory of Character and Characteriztion is used to analyze the data. Moreover, the approaches used in this research are psychological approach and sociological approach. Firstly, the results of the analysis on David's characterization in David Copperfield are (1) being an innocent person which means that David is not an experienced man worldly, David is really naïve (2) being an optimistic person which means that David looks at the bright, positive side of situations (3) being a naïve person which means that David sees the world as a thing of beauty.David always believes other people although they say bad things to David (4) being a loving person which means that David has an interaction with Dora and it shows his love (5) being an honest person which means that David never tells lies, steals,or cheats and never forgets the goodness of persons who help him. Secondly, there are three influences of family, of school,and of jobs in David Copperfield. They are the family influence on David Copperfield's childhood which makes David a better man, the school influence on David Copperfield's characterization which makes David have many good friends and David's Jobs influence on David's characterization that makes David reach his success as a man from it.
