Abstract

The objectives of this research, are : (1) to find out woman ambitions happening in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, (2) to figure out the ways woman characters in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice reach their ambitions,(3)to explain the effects of the woman ambitions toward the character themselves and other characters in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Pride and Prejudice has many phenomena about ambition. The ambition especially is about woman ambition. There are some reasons in analyzing woman ambitions. Firstly, ambition is interesting to be analyzed. Through the ambition, it can motivate human beings to be successful in reaching a better life. Secondly a phenomena about woman ambition is found in Pride and Prejudice in the characters Mrs. Bennet and of Lydia Bennet. To make their ambition come true,they do a lot of efforts. The effects of the efforts are different, there are good effect and bad effect. The writer takes Pride and Prejudice as the primary data. While, some books and article are used to support the analysis in this research. There aresome theories used in this research. They are character, characterization, women,ambition and woman ambitions. This research applies psychological approach and sociological approach since it can answer the problems about ambition. Bennet's family is surrounded by some ambitions. Most of their ambitions are successful in life. As the result, some lessons are learned by the writer.Ambition does not always have to do with the bad thing. It can be the way to solve the problem. Furthermore, the writer hopes that through reading this research, the readers will know a way to have better life, through the ambition.Moreover,the writer expects in order that the readers can get deeper information about ambition especially woman ambitions.
