Abstract
This analysis concerns with one of William Shakesper’s great play entitled Hamlet. This play tells about Hamlet, a young prince of Denmark, who takes revenge for his father’s death. The writer of this thesis offers two problems namely: the effects of superstition on the main character and the effects of superstition on the plot development. The data corpus of this research are all of the phrases, clauses , sentences, and even paragraphs and discourses related to effects of superstition on the main character and the plot development in William Shakespere’s Hamlet. Then, the writer employs library research including internet browsing to find the relevant theories. Moreover sociological approach is used to analyze the data. There are four effects of superstition on the main character in William Shakespere’s Hamlet. They are making Hamlet shocked, causing Hamlet to be well informed, making Hamlet doubted, and leading Hamlet to take revenge. Further, the effects of superstition on the plot development divided into five namely on the introduction, on the rising action, on the climax, on the falling action, and on the catastrophe.
