Abstract

The objectives of the research entitled The Failure of Edwin Arlington Robinson's Life as Reflected in Miniver Cheevy and For a Dead Lady Poems are:(1) analyzing the correlation between both of the poems with the poet himself,(2)analyzing the failures, the causes, and the effects of the poet's failures through the two poems and the poet's biography. Both of the poems Miniver Cheevy and For a Daed Ladyare reflecting the failure of the poet's life. The poem entitled Miniver Cheevy describes the failure of the poet in getting love from his family, especially his mother. The failure is Robinson spent his time to dream as a king. It is caused by Robinson did not get his mother's affection. The effect is Robinson spent his time drinking. The poem entitled For a Dead Lady describes the death of Robinson's mother.The failure is his mother did not give him her affection untl she died. As long as her life, she never loved Robinson. The cause is Robinson did not get his mother's love and he failed in love with Emma Shepherd. The effect is Robinson spent his time writing poems.
