Abstract
The objectives of the study entitled the strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde are (1) to elaborate Dr Jekyll's split personality, (2) to analyze the factors influencing Dr. Jekyll's split personality, and (3) to analyze the effects of Dr.Jekyll's split personality on his social life. The library researches to find the related studies that are viewed to form the conceptual models. The conceptual models of the related studies are used to find the data. The data can be words,phrases,clauses, or discourse that are related to Dr. Jekyll's split personality,their causes and the effects. The data analyzed deductively using psychological approach. Dr. Jekyll's split personalities are Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde. As Dr. Jekyll, he has a good background and personality. He is fifty years old man who a rich. As a rather silent man and considerate master, he has some loyal staunch, butler, cook and young servants. His good friends and lawyer usually meet him in his house to talk so many things. As Mr. Hyde, he is described as a cruel and violent man with terrible performance. He has no human feeling,job and friends. There are three factors that can make Dr. Jekyll becomes have split personality. The first factors are the unhappy life as an established and respected doctor. Before he becomes an established and respected doctor, he has a normal life and happy. The second factors are the extreme experiments on him. As a doctor, he allows to make some experiments that can make his theories come true.The last is his vanity. His vanity drove him to announce something much more parallel experimentation into the possibility of divorcing the evil person inside himself from the good. Dr. Jekyll's split personalities influence his colleague, Mr. Gabriel Utterson, Dr. Hestie Lanyon and his butler Poole. Mr. Utterson thinks that Dr.Jekyll is under one's blackmail. It is because Dr. Jekyll makes a will that he will give all of his money to Mr. Hyde. While, his colleague Dr. Lanyon choose to suicide because has guilty feeling for helping Dr. Jekyll's experiment which Dr.Lanyon disagree. Poole must keep secret this master's life.
