Abstract

The research entitled An Analysis of Adjective Word Order discusses the kinds and the order of adjective in English. There are two problems which must be answered. First, the problem discusses the kinds of adjective in English. Second, the problem describes the order of adjectives in English. To achieve the objectives, the library research including internet browsing is done for collecting data. The researcher also uses descriptive method because this method is considered as the appropriate method to discuss the problems of this research. This method uses some steps, that is, collecting, arranging, classifying, analyzing and interpreting the data. Furthermore,this research also uses the expansion technique to analyze the data. Both of the problems are analyzed by using the expansion technique. This technique is applied in this research because it is used to describe the kinds and also the order of adjective in English. The first problem discusses the kind of adjective in English. The kinds of adjective which are found in English are the adjective of determiner (number/article, possessive, demonstrative), descriptive adjective which is divided into three kinds, that is, proper adjective, participle, and compound, then, size, opinion, age, shape, color, and origin. The second problem discusses the arrangement of adjective in English.The researcher shows how to arrange more than one adjective in English. This second problem is divided into three analyses, that is, the order of two adjectives, the order of three adjective and the order of four adjectives.
