Abstract

In this research, the writer discusses English Sentence used in Short Message Service. There are four kinds of English Sentence. Besides, it is also discussed about the structure of English Sentence in Short Message Service. In this research, the writer uses descriptive method because it is considered as the most appropriate method in relation with the problems of this research. This method uses some steps: collecting, classifying, and analyzing, and analyzing the data . The writer takes the data from short message service in “English Eve” program of 100.5 Duta Cakrawala Serasi FM Madiun and short message service from the tenth semester’s university student of English Departement University of Widya Mandala Madiun. Based on this research, there are four kinds of English Sentence based on the purpose, namely: declarative sentence (15,7%), interrogative sentence (25,5%) imperative (11,8%) and exclamatory sentence (5,9%). Besides that, there are three kinds of English Sentence based on the form, namely; simple sentence, compound sentence and elliptical sentence. Every sentence has different patterns. The patterns of simple sentence, are: noun auxiliary (5,9 %), noun + linking verb (13,7 %), noun + verb (9,8%). The patterns of compound sentence, are: noun +modal auxiliary (2,0%), noun + verb + and+ noun + verb c(5,9%), noun + linking verb+ but + noun + verb (7,8%). Finally, the patterns of elliptical sentence, are : the omission of subject (7,8%) , the omission of subject and verb (9,8%), the omission of subject and object (3,9%).
