Abstract

In this research, the writer discusses Phrasal Verb that occurs in articles of Holland Horizon magazine published every three months. The writer wants to study deeper about Phrasal Verb by analyzing the structures of English Phrasal Verb and the similarities and the differences of Phrasal Verb in English and Indonesian. In this research, the writer uses descriptive method, by collecting the data,classifying the data, and analyzing the data. At last, the writer gives the conclusion. The writer takes the articles of Holland Horizon magazine which is published in 2003 as the source of data. Based on this research, the writer finds that Phrasal verb has three different structures. The first is verb + preposition (12,5%), the second is verb + adverbial particle (82,5%), classified into separable (77,5%) and inseparable (5%), the third is verb + adverb (5%). English and Indonesian Phrasal Verb has the similarities, that is, both function as predicate in a sentence. Besides that, English and Indonesian Phrasal Verb produces a new different meaning which is different from their singular verb. It could be totally different or which is different just an additional meaning. Furthermore, there are two differences of English and Indonesian Phrasal Verb. The first is based on the structure. The structures of English Phrasal Verb are verb + preposition, verb + adverbial particle, verb + adverb. Meanwhile, the structures of Indonesian Phrasal Verb are verb + verb, verb + adjective, verb +adverb. The other differences are based on the forms, English Phrasal Verb is Separable and Inseparable,while, Indonesian Phrasal Verb is Inseparable only.
