Abstract

As a Literary work, novel functions as dulce et utile, and is interesting as well as useful. One of Indonesian women writers deserving to be discussed is Djenar Maesa Ayu (DMA) with her novel entitled Nayla (N). The Novel conveys a lot of spiritual teachings to the readers since it contains psychological experience concerning socio-cultural aspects, especially gender and feminism perspectives. The power of attraction of the novel lies on the narrative form used by DMA. DMA's masterpiece Nayla is reasonable to be used as an abject of study based on the following considerations: (1) Nayla is one of the latest good literary works, (2) Nayla has narrative specifies. (3) Nayla was written by feminist author of strong feminist vision, (4) The strong feminist vision has great effect on the style and ways of character presentation, (5) Cultural scope and tradition which tend to be patriarchal influence feminist vision of the author, (6) Nayla reveals various problems on gender, including identity, role, and function of gender.
