Abstract

This research aimed to examine the relation between the social support and the shyness of adolecence. Besides, it also aimed to know the degrees of shyness of adolescence in relation to sex. The samples of the research were 100 students of the Faculty of Psychology and of Guidance and Counseling Widya Mandala University of Madiun, and of Teology Education STKIP Widya Yuwana of Madiun. The data were collected using two kinds of questionnaires. One of them was about the shyness of adolescence; while the other was about social support. The data of the research were analyzed using Product Moment Pearson Analysis and Analysis of Variance. The data analysis showed that: (1) there was positive and very significant correlation between the social support and the shyness of adolescence (rxy=0.681; p=0.000) (highly significant); 2) the men were of higher shyness than the women (F=10.520; p=0.002) (highly significant).
