Abstract
Having been engaged in the ASEAN free trade since 2003 and going to be so in the Asia and Pacific Free Trade in 2020, Indonesians are facing up a challenge to improve themselves, especially their abilities of achieving success and cooperating with others. The recent adolescents shall become the main agents of those free trades. Thus, they have to internalize such abilities, as affiliation and achievement. The aim of this study was to know among the adolescents whether the motive of affilianton was related to the motive of achievement. The first corresponded to the ability of cooperation and the second to the ability of achieving success. Adolescents of 16-21 years old were the subjects of this study. They were sampled from the student of Pangudi Luhur 'van Lith' senior high school, Muntilan. Two psychological scale for motives of affiliation and of achievement with the summated rating method were distributed. The mean scores of the student progress report were treated as their actual achievement. Reliabilities for Motive Scale of Affiliation and Motive Scale of Achievement were axamined with the reliability analysis-scale (Alpha). The reliability coefficients for motive scale of affiliation (.8969) and for motive scale of achievement (.8722) were accepted. The correlation between motive of affiliation and scores of student progress report was .018, p >.05 with spearman's correlation method. The correlation between motive of achievement and scores of student progress report was.173, with Karl Pearson correlation method. The correlation between motive of achievement and scores of student progress report was accepted but the correlation between motive of affiliation and score of student progress report was not accepted.
