Abstract

This study discusses metaphor found in the lyrics of Demi Lovato's songs.The purposes of this research are to find out the kinds and te meaning ofmetaphor in it. This is a descriptive study.The research is conducted through some steps:collecting,classifying,and analyzing the data. The data were taken from the lyricsof Demi Lovato's songs consisting of 105 lyrics from 4 albums. The unit ofanalysis of this research is all lyrics containing metaphor inside. To get thesample,this research applied total sampling.Therefore, all the data were analyzedone by one. Based on the kinds, there are six kinds of metaphor including deadmetaphor,cliché metaphor,stock metaphor,adapted metaphor, recent metaphor,and original metaphor. It is found that original metaphor is frequently used,whilethe recent metaphor is rarely used. Moreover,the meaning of metaphor was interpreted based on the contextof the song.The data analysis shows that there are three kinds of meaning foundin the lyrics of Demi Lovato's songs which are the meaning related to personal tocharacteristics, the meaning related to pleasure and enjoyment,and the meaning related to sadness.
