Primary data are taken from the novel itself,The Old Man and the Sea.The secondary data are obtained from the theories of Symbol, God, Jesus Christ,Christianity, Holy Bible, Evil, and Theme. Moreover, psychological and religious-intellectual approaches are applied to analyze the data in this research. In novel The Old Man and the Sea, the writer finds some symbols that deal with Christian through all characters. All characters in this novel symbolize religious symbols. They are God, Jesus Christ, Christianity, Holy Bible, and Evil.Santiago, the main character symbolizes Jesus Christ as a Savior. Santiago battles the sharks in the sea in order to save his marlin. While, Jesus Christ has to fight Evil in order to save human from the sin. The fighting sharks symbolize the wickedness of the Evil and moral bad qualities. Those religious symbols in this novel reveal the religious theme in Ernest Hmingway's The Old Man and the Sea.The writer finds there are some similarities between religious symbols and the main character, Santiago which are used to reveal the theme of The Old Man and the Sea. The similarities between religious symbols and Santiago can be shown through Santiago's journey. Santiago's journey is similar to suffering of Jesus Christ before He has been crucified.
