Abstract

In this thesis, the analysis focuses on Ellida’s obstacles, success, and effect’s adaptation of new social class in the drama entitled the lady from the sea . This topic is chosen because it is very interesting since it talk about a woman comes from lower class. She wants to adapt with high class after she gets married with wangle, a rich doctor. There are three problems discussed here, (1) obstacles faced by Ellida’s adaptation of her new social class after she gets married with Wangel, a very rich doctor . (2) the success got by Ellida’s adaptation of new social class. (3) the effect got by Ellida’s adaptation of new social class. In this research the write uses a library research, it is included internet browsing. There two data, primary data and secondary data. Primary data are taken from the drama The Lady from The Sea. Secondary data are taken from theory of obstacle by William Morris, theory of success by Joseph Devlin,M.A, theory of setting by Kenney, theory of conflict by Kelley Griffith, and theory of character by Shiply. From the analysis, the write finds out that there are some obstacles faced by Ellida in adapting with new social class when she gets married with Wangel. The obstacles come not only from her step daughters but also from herself.
