Abstract
The objectives of this research are: (1) to find out the reasons of Tempy's Hypocrisy, (2) to explain how Tempy conducts the Hypocrisy. (3) to figure out the effects of Tempy's hypocrisy towards herself and her sisters, Harriett and Annjee. Not Without Laughter is used as the primary source to analyze the thesis.While,the secondary sources are articles, books, and references which are used to support the analysis of the primary data. This research applies psychological approach since it can answer the problems about hypocrisy. Langston Hughes shows many events in his novel, Not Without Laughter.One of them is Tempy's Hypocrisy. The writer is interested to analyze Tempy's Hypocrisy in Langston Hughes' Not Without Laughter because she experiences racial discrimination from the white people at that time. In addition, she is ashamed of her Black background and admires her white mistress. Therefore,Tempy conducts her hypocrisy in her life. Consequently, Tempy gets the effects because of her hypocrisy.
