Abstract

Literature is a work that expresses and extends the minds, the feelings and the attitude of our lives through written language. The object of a literary work is the life of human being. Literary work in wider meaning includes all literary works which are written such as play, novels and poems. A play is a form of literature used in theater. A play a mirror of human life such as sadness,happiness, jealousy, hatred and all problems in life. A play is also made to describe the life that concern with conflict and emotion that can be seen from the dialogue and the movement of each character. Than, play tells about the strive of life and as the story of the play is human conflicts. In writing this thesis, the writer uses library research and deductive method. Library research is a method of collecting data which take the data from a literary work, and then the writer also looks for other books to support the reference.While deductive method is a method of looking for the evidences from more specific information. In this chance, the writer choose a play entitled Othello the Moor of Venice to be analyzed. Othello the Moor of Venice is a play, which is written by William Shakespeare,that tells his plot so interestingly to the reader. William Shakespeare is known as popular writer and good playwright. So there is no wonder that the people have opinions that Othello the Moor of Venice is a good play that ends in tragedy. Othello the Moor of Venice tells about a Moor named Othello. His wife is from different race her name is Desdemona. He has a good position as general in Venice. His good fortune makes Iago jealous. Iago has plan to destroy Othello's carrier and Othello's marriage. Firstly, Iago influences Desdemona's father,accusing Othello as a thief of his daughter. Secondly, Iago influences Othello's mind with to accuse Desdemona having affair with Cassio. Finally, Othello becomes cornered character because of his race and Iago's social jealousy.As the end of a play Othello the Moor of Venice, Othello kills his wife and he commits suicide. Therefore, this play is a tragic play.
