Abstract

This study, entitled The Struggles for Sexual Pleasure: A Feministic Study of the Main Character in D. H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover is aimed: (1) to explain Connie's reasons in struggling for sexual pleasure and (2) to analyze Connie's ways in struggling for sexual pleasure. Library research including Internet browsing is used to formulate the conceptual data of feminism, and related studies. The data corpus of this thesis includes all of the phrases, clauses and sentences, and even discourses, which have relation with feminism of the main character that is found in D. H. Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover. They are can be in the form of dialogues, or narratives. Moreover, psycho-social approaches are taken to analyze the data. Connie's reasons in struggling for sexual pleasure come from herself, her parents, her fellow friends, her husband, and her boyfriends. Connie herself sees sexual pleasure as an important part in her life. That is why she always finds her own sexual pleasure with other men. Connie's parents are the next reason in her struggling for sexual pleasure. Her parents let her to do anything she likes for her life. Connie's fellow friends in Dresden also support her in struggling for sexual pleasure. The main reason in her struggling for sexual pleasure is her husband, he is impotent. Besides her husband, Michelis, one of Connie's boyfriends drives Connie's sexual desire. The second one is seduction from Mellors, her gamekeeper. One of Connie's ways in her struggling for sexual pleasure is having a lot of premarital sex. She does it when she was young. Having affairs when getting married is the other Connie's way. She has affair with Michaelis, her husband's friend; and Mellors, her gamekeeper.
