Abstract

The objectives of the research entitled The Main Character's Love and Unfair Treatments that Influence Her Progress in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre are (1) to describe love experiences undergone by Jane Eyre, the main character of Jane Eyre. (2) to describe the unfair treatments undertaken by Jane Eyre (3) to analyze Jane Eyre's progress due to her love and the unfair treatments.Library research including internet browsing is employed to find the relevant theories. The data corpus of this research are all of the phrases,clauses, sentences and even paragraphs and discourses related to the main character's love and her progress in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre.Psychological and social approaches are used to analyze the data. Firstly, Jane Eyre as the main character experiences two kinds of love,neighbor's love and romantic love. The neighbor's love she gets from her maid, her friend and teacher at Lowood School, Mrs. Fairfax and Adele.Jane's romantic love is with Mr. Rochester, her master when she becomes a governess at Thornfield. Secondly, Jane Eyre gets some unfair treatments in her childhood and in her adulthood. In her childhood she gets unfair treatments from her aunt, cousins and maid. At Lowood School she also gets unfair treatments from her teacher. In her adulthood she gets the unfair treatments from her aunt and her new neighbor at Thornfield. Thirdly, due to love and the unfair treatments undertaken by Jane Eyre, Jane has some progress. They are emotional progress, materialistic progress and career progress.
