Abstract
This research discusses implicature. This research aims to solve the problems that are the kinds of implicature used in jokes and what is the purpose of implicature used in jokes. To achieve the objectives, the writer applies library research for collecting the data. The data of this research are words, phrases and sentences which are found in the jokes published in internet. Furthur, this research uses descriptive method in order to solve the topical problems by collecting, classifying, and analyzing the data. The study of implicature used in jokes is divided into two. The first one is the type of implicature used in jokes, and the second is the purpose of implicature used in jokes. Implicature is the messages which is implies in the utterance. Implicature are deviden into conversational implicature and conventional implicature. Conversational implicature is a message which is implied in conversation. Conventional implicature is non-truth-conditional inference that is not derived from super ardinate pragmatic principles like the maxims, but is simply attached to particular lexical items or expressions by convention. The result of the study among them is the types of implicature and the purpose of implicature. The types of implicature are conversational implicature and conventional implicature. In jokes published in internet, the conventional implicature is more used than the conversational implicature. The purposes of implicature are representatives , directives, commissives and declaratives.
