Abstract

The objectives of research entitled The Analysis of the Similar and Different Expresion for the Broken Heart Theme in George Gordon Byron’s To A Lady, When We Two Parted, and Maid of Athene, Ere We Part are (1) to find the similar themes in George Gordon Byron’s To A Lady , When We Part, and Maid of Athene, Ere We Part? And (2) to analyze the similarities and the differences in expressing broken heart theme in George Gordon Byron’s To A Lady, When We Two Parted, and Maid of Atene, Ere We Part?. The data are taken from George Byron’s poems. Library research including internet browsing is used to find the related studies. The related studies are used to form the conceptual model used to find the data in the poem. The data corpus consist of words, phrases, sentences in the poems in the poems To A Lady, When We Two parted, and Maid of Athene, Ere We Part. The Poem analyzed descriptively using structural approach. The themes of the three poems are similar, namely broken heart. In To A Lady, the poet feels so sad because his girlfriend has the other man. He goes to Istambul to forget her, but he can not do it. Meanwhile, in When We Two Parted, the poet also broken hearted because he leaves her girlfriend . After his leaving , the girl has many men who adore her. It makes him regretful and finally frustrated because of his broken heart . In the Maid of Athene, Ere We Parrt, the poet is broken hearted because he leaves the girl without saying that loves her. After his leaving, he feels regretful. In terms of sense, structural device and sound device, the broken heart thene are expresses similary and differently. The sense devices simililarities among the are metaphor and imagery. The sense device difference is simile. There is no simile in To A Lady and When We Two Pared, but in Maid of Athene, Ere We Part there is a simile. The structural device similarities are contrast, illustration, and repetition. The structural device difference is not found in all yhe poems. The soud device similarities are alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme, rhytm, and assonance. All of them can be found in the three poems. Meanwhile, the sound device difference that is consonance can be found in When We Two Parted and Maid of Athene, Ere We Part, but in To A Lady, the consonance is not found.
