Abstract

In this thesis, the researcher will take one topic of pragmatics, namely place or spatial deixis, which exists in Reader's Digest magazine. The place or spatial deixis itself consists of two types. They are locative adverbs type and demonstrative determiners pronouns type. Further, the meaning of each term is analyzed based on the aspect of a word meaning, that is, denotative and connotative meaning. In conducting this research, the researcher applied descriptive method.It was done by collecting, classifying and analyzing the data. The data of this research are place deixis terms found in Reader's Digest magazine. In this research, the population of the data is made as sample. The analysis of the data was done by describing and identifying the type of place deixis and the second is the meaning of each data. The result of the data analysis reveals that 160 (0,87 %) of locative adverbs type is performed by the terms for here 65 (0,36 %) and the term there for 95 (0,51 %). Further,the demonstrative determiners pronouns type 23 (0,13 %) is 10 (0,06 %) performed by the term this and that for 13 (0,07 %). Then, the result of the meaning of each data reveals that 113 (0,62%) of them as denotative meaning and 70 (0,38%) of them as connotative meaning.
