Abstract

This research discusses male supremacy in Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House. It aims to (1) explain male supremacy conducted by Torvald in the drama and(2)explain the effects of Torvald's male supremacy toward himself and Nora. This is a library research,in which all the data and the theories were taken from written forms including internet browsing. The theories used in this study are the theories of character,characterization,patriarchy, and woman oppression. Moreover,the approaches applied are psychological approaches and sociological approach.The analysis focuses on male supremacy conducted by the main character,Torvald Helmer. Torvald Helmer as a leader on his family has a power to control his family and his wife's life. Torvald Helmer as a husband demands his wife, Nora not only mentally and physically but also financially. In thiscondition Nora gets oppression and depression that cause her to depend on her husband
