Abstract
The objectives of the study are to analyze the main character's immaturity and maturity in Ernest Hemingway's Novel A Farewell to Arms.Library research including internet browsing is done to form conceptual models based on the related studies. The conceptual models, then, are used to find the data. The data corpus of this thesis includes all of the phrase, clause and discourse which have relation with the sources of immaturity and maturity by the main character in Ernest Hemingway' Novel A Farewell to Arms.Psychological and sociological approaches are used to analyze the data descriptively. In the beginning, Frederic Henry, the main character of novel, is immature due to being rude and brutal, denying his love, not respecting his love, having casual sex, being irresponsible and forcing others. Later,Frederic Henry become mature because of being polite and humble, acknowledging his love, respecting his lover, being faithful, being responsible and sacrificing.
