Abstract

The research entitled An Analysis on the Use of Ain't Form in Langston Hughes's Not Without Laughter aims to describe about the structure of ain't form used in the novel entitled Not Without Laughter by Langston Hughes.Besides,the researcher also would like to show the application of ain't form in the sentence of Not Without Laughter novel. To achieve the objectives, this research uses descriptive method because this method is considered as the most suitable method with the problems of the research. This method uses some steps, that is, collecting, arranging,classifying,analyzing, and interpreting the data. While, in analyzing the data this research appled two techniques. They are expansion technique and deletion technique.Expansion technique is applied in this research to describe the structure of ain't form in the sentences found in the novel entitled Not Without Laughter. While,Deletion technique is used to describe how the ain't form are applied in the sentences. There are 162 sentences which contain ain't form within them. The data analysis shows that the ain't form represents "is not” are 37 data, “am not” are 11 data,“are not” are 30 data,“was not” are 1 data, “do not” are 21 data,“does not” are 10 data, “did not” are 4 data, "have not” are 34 data, “has not” are 10data and represents "had not" are 2 data. However, the researcher does not find any structure of Black English sentence which replaces “were not” in Not Without Laughter by Langston Hughes. Then,the researcher also finds the position of ain't form in the initial position and in the middle position. ain't form represents “is not” in the initial position are 3 data and in the middle position are 35 data; represents “am not” in the middle position are 10 data; represents “are not” in the initial position are 6 data and in the middle position are 1 data; represents “was not” in the middle position are 2data; represents “do not” in the initial position are 2 data and in the middle position are 6 data; represents “does not” in the initial position are 1 data and in the middle position are 2 data; represents “did not” in the initial position are 3data and in the middle position are 23 data; represents "have not” in the initial position are 2 data and in the middle position are 34 data; represents “has not” in the initial position are 1 data and 11 data in the middle position and represents "had not" in the middle position are 2 data.
