Abstract
Literature is writing which expresses and communicates thought, feeling, and attitude toward life through a written language. In the wide meaning, literature includes all written work. Literary works are poems, plays, novels, and short stories. Here, writer chooses a novel. Novel is a literary works which very interest and it is liked by many people, especially a man who likes to reading book. With reading novel, we will get many acknowledges and experiences of life in the world. They can also read it whenever and anywhere. In this thesis, writer chooses Killer in Silk to be analyzed. A fiction work is written by H.Vernor Dixon, which was published the first time on October 1956.He presents his story with interesting and he uses language, which is understood easily by reader. The story in Killer in Silk depicts human being's life. They free to make action and in fact, the freedom is prohibited by God. Furthermore, the writer examines about existentialism on the death in novel Killer in Silk with title An Existentialism Analysis on the Death in H. Vernor Dixon's Killer in Silk. The writer uses deductive method in her analysis. Deductive method is a method of getting conclusions, by starting from the general information and moving to specific one. Besides that, writer uses the library research. She collects data from many books and references. She also uses psychological approach. The writer wants to discuss about: (1) what are the existentialism's problems on the death in novel; (2) what are the existentialism's influences of main characters in novel; and (3) How does the existentialism's resolution of main characters in novel. Novel Killer in Silk stories about someone's death names Jay Wilson. He is shot by someone to dead. Many people consider that someone who kills Jay is Irene Wilson, his wife. It is wrong. The Jay's death is still mysterious. The event is revealed ten years later, when Morgan comes in Irene's house. He is an alcoholic. Irene likes to help an alcoholic, so that he or she uncovers from their his or her drinking alcohol. She likes to help an alcoholic because her husband is dead in drinking alcohol. She feels be guilty. She wants to improve her past with helping someone like Morgan. Morgan stays in Irene's house until he recovers from his drinking alcohol. He repays Irene's kindness with investigating Irene husband's death. Finally, Jay's death is revealed. It influences others character. They are Glenna Wilson and Frank Wilson. The story of novel is suitable with the life today. The life contents of greed and ambition. The human beings free to do something. For example, kill, violate, make affair, and et cetera. They always forget their God. It can be proven with attitude in our environment. After reading this thesis, writer hopes, so that the reader understands about existentialism on the death of God philosophy in H.Vernor Dixon's Killer in Silk.
